“Young Adventures”

The Moose Jaw Family YMCA has partnered with the Moose Jaw Prairie South School Division #210 to offer a program like no other in Moose Jaw.

This is a program that offers youth in grades 5-6 a chance to become involved in their community, travel, learn new skills and most importantly have fun in a safe environment. The Program is YMCA Young Adventures.

Travel Events…

The Young Adventures program is offered throughout YMCA’s across Canada, offering various training and traveling events. These include a camping trip, annual YMCA Young Adventures Conferences, and many more!

Fundraising…

Youth within the Core will be responsible for planning two fundraising events throughout the year. Of course, a YMCA staff member will give guidance and parents are neither expected to nor are under any obligation to participate in these events.

All the money raised will stay within the YMCA Youth Leadership Corp assisting with traveling expenses, and other costs associated with the corp.

A Typical Evening…

A typical Y.A evening involves a variety of activities highlighting current events, animated discussions, and adventurous outings.  These are all carefully designed to take place in a high-energy game environment that cultivates personal growth, character development, and strong leadership skills. Field Experts will also be present to discuss various topics including bullying, public speaking, and outdoor education.

Re-Claiming the Canadian youth…

Youth today often find themselves in situations they are ill equipped to handle. It is our goal through the program to give them the resources they need to reclaim their spirit mind and body.

As leaders we are ready to listen to, to understand, to influence, to dig below the surface and discover their real needs and desires. We are prepared to answer questions and address their individual needs.

As educational leaders we will be using the YMCA corp. values as a guide throughout the Y.A program.
The Core Values are as follows:
Trust
Respect
Responsibility
Honesty
Caring
Our goal is not to teach or promote our own personal beliefs on these events, but rather teach the youth to think for themselves, form opinions, and respect and tolerate different views.  Staff will refrain from offering personal opinions unless directly asked.
